Join ABC to Read at 11 am on Saturday 23 March 2013 for its annual Sponsored Walk. 

NEW for this year is the Family Fun Day with singers, dancers, face painting, a bouncy castle and much more in the lovely surroundings of California Country Park. By taking part you will make a difference to the lives of children in Berkshire.

The Sponsored Walk is a 2.2 mile (3.5km) guided woodland walk through bog & heathland in California Country Park.

After the walk, the Fun Day starts (around 12.30/13.00) with the following!

  • Voices of Reading, community choir
  • Morris Dancers
  • RUCAS Jugglers
  • Face painting
  • Bouncy castle
  • SPECIAL GUEST – Dan Freedman, the author of Jamie Johnson series

Dan Freedman, author of the Jamie Johnson book series, who will tell about his journey from being a football fanatic at school all the way through to working with the England Team and becoming a football author. Dan lives in London and started his career in The Football Association. He also worked to set-up The England Team’s first ever in-house TV channel. During this career he interviewed among others Roy Keane, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and, of course, Sir Alex Ferguson.


Don’t worry if you don’t feel like walking – just come along to the Family Fun Day – we’ll be happy to see you. The Family Fun Day is FREE, but if you register for the Sponsored Walk, you will receive:

  • 1 strip i.e. 5 raffle tickets per person
  • A goodie bag filled with goodies from our sponsors (L’Oreál and Caversham Coachworks)
  • A chance to win a Miele S6 hoover on the competition
  • A quiz for the kids
  • A certificate to show you participated in the Sponsored Walk

The winner of the competition will be the person who collects the largest amount of donations for the Sponsored Walk.
  • Entrants must be UK residents over 18 years old.
  • Entrants should register for the Sponsored Walk and pay the entry fee.
  • Entrants should either collect the donations online (e.g. JustGiving page) or via a GiftAid form.
  • Submitting the entry: a print-out of the Just Giving page or the GiftAid Form must be handed over at the Registration Desk before 11 am on 23 March 2013.
Definition of collecting money online e.g. a JustGiving page:
  • It can be used if the entrant decides to collect online donations.
  • The page should be under the name of the entrant. It should be specifically set up by the entrant for the Sponsored Walk.
  • It should be linked to ABC to Read as a beneficiary.
Definition of collecting money via a GiftAid Form:
  • It can be used if the entrant decides to collect cash donations.
  • The form should be filled out appropriately.
