A new convenience store opening on Oxford Road, in Reading, this month will celebrate its launch with a donation, to local charity, Assisting Berkshire Children to Read.

Marcia Rowlinson, Chief Operating and Development Officer for the charity, will be the guest of honour when the new Tesco Express store opens on Tuesday 15 April, on Oxford Road, and she will be invited to cut a ribbon to declare the new store officially open.

Store manager, Adele Howard, and her team will present Elaine with a cheque for £500 as part of Tesco’s commitment to supporting the local community.

ABC to Read, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, aims to improve the reading skills of children in Reading and Berkshire with individual tuition, and through games and activities. The charity also provides training to school helpers and provides advice and support for parents in helping their child to read at home.

Tesco Express store manager, Adele said: “We are delighted to be able to support ABC to Read, as they do such wonderful work for the children in the local community. We are really pleased that Marcia is coming to launch the new store and join in the celebrations with us.

“My team and I are looking forward to welcoming our customers into the new store and we hope that Tesco will become a key part of the local community.”

The doors of the new Tesco Express on Oxford Road open for the first time at 8am on 15 April, with the official opening ceremony and cheque presentation taking place later that morning at 10.30am.

Store opening hours will be seven days a week from 6am until 11pm, and for added convenience the store will have a free-to-use cash machine, self-service tills, Click & Collect, mobile phone top-up, National Lottery counter, beers, wines and spirits. Parking is also available for customers in front of the store.
