All our volunteer reading mentors receive training before they are matched with a suitable primary school and begin work with their allocated children. The training covers areas such as how schools teach literacy skills, how to build trust with children, how to support the children with their own reading and safe-guarding responsibilities.

We also run the following courses to support families and children directly:

  • Parent helper – for those who volunteer in their child’s school (2-day course)
  • Ready to Read – for parents of pre-schoolers to help them understand what they can be doing now to prepare their children for a lifelong love of reading (2 x 2 hour sessions)
