Drummonds, a local lettings and property management specialist based in Caversham, have announced one of their chosen charities for this year as Berkshire reading charity ABC to Read.
The charity trains volunteers to be reading mentors, to support children in Berkshire who are struggling with their reading. The initial cheque from Drummonds of £300 enabled the charity to purchase book boxes for their new volunteers, to help them in transporting the books they read with the children.
Marcia Rowlinson, ABC to Read Chief Operating and Development Officer, picked up the cheque on Thursday. Drummonds said:
“We care about our community and therefore decided to sponsor ABC to Read, a truly inspiring local charity, to show our support towards the wonderful and invaluable gift of education. Our financial contribution is just the start of all the help we hopefully can share with ABC to Read and we are proud to sponsor such an amazing charity.”
ABC to Read is always looking for more volunteers and schools are eligible to use the government allocated pupil premium to use as a donation to help the charity cover the cost of the volunteers’ support and training.
Volunteers would need to be available for training for three hours per week for a year. Anybody interested in becoming a volunteer should email: firstname.lastname@example.org
